Every week in our staffing meeting, we ask our team to share any lessons learned the previous week. In a few short minutes, sharing these lessons can save countless hours and dollars in future projects.
A recent lesson learned shared by Linda Mark deals with ramps. While this is primarily the purview of our civil engineers, when we checkset, having this nugget of information will help us catch a potential issue before it "ramps up" into an actual problem:
Essentially, when using ramps, you have to think about the potential for a wheelchair wheel to turn and extend beyond the plane of the handrailing and slip over the side. In order to prevent this, you either need the ground surface to extend 12 inches beyond the inside face of the handrail OR you need a curb barrier to prevent the passage of the wheel.
Thanks Linda!
